Water Supply as a mission of the Corps of Engineers

The attached articles provide a nice summary of the issues that emerged from the deliberations on the Corps of Engineers proposed Water Supply Rulemaking (subsequently withdrawn) and the current study underway on the pros and cons of making water supply a primary mission of the Corps, required under the Water Resources Development Act of 2020. The articles provide context for the upcoming publication of the Corps study.

The Corps study draft has been transmitted to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works (ASACW). After review by the ASACW, the study will be forwarded to the Office of Management and Budget before publication and release to the public. Corps of Engineers representatives will attend the NWSA Annual Meeting 2022 in Bismarck next month, at which time we can expect an update on the study's status and possibly an overview of its contents.
